With the population growing to an estimated 8 billion people over the
next 25 years, the world is facing the challenge to accomodate all. To
truly speak of a world community, economically viable and socially inclusive,
international human development has to increase. International awareness
we are convinced is at the very heart of the matter.
Maps: excellent communication tools
Innovative use of maps is central in our approach. We recognize maps as a powerful communication tool. We initiate maps to illuminate the issues important to the world community. Primarily, we develop maps in which the size of a country is rendered by an indicator, rather than by its geography ('cartogram'). Our maps offer a different perspective on the contemporary world.
International development institutions spend a lot of effort assembling statistics and assessing changes. Mapping Worlds suggests to enhance the value of these data, to better detect and analyze differences between countries or regions.

Mapping Worlds has been established in 2004 by Desmond Spruijt. Each project is developed and executed by experts in the fields of cartography, visual and interaction design and programming.
