How important is the internal market for EU members? This map (Europa Expres, May 2005 issue) shows the total volume of intra-EU trade and each countries share (on the left). The size of countries on the map on the right illustrates the importance of the intra EU-trade compared to the Gross National Product.
An illustrated debate, inviting the public to measure hospitality of the EU towards immigrants. Different possible criteria are represented by a series of maps.

The new Constitution of the European Union needs to be ratified by all 25 member states. Every country has a vote of equal weight: all countries on this map are exactly the same size. A red dot represents a binding referendum as ratification, a pink dot a consultative referendum. The shades of blue indicate the percentage of public opinion favouring the idea of a European constitution (dark blue: 100%, White: 50%). Published in Europa Expres, January 2005, Dutch Ministery of Foreign Affairs.

The
map on Asylum Applications (Europa Expres, Dutch Ministery of Foreign Affairs, July 2004 issue) shows the countries according
to the amount of applications in 2003. In the border, for the 16 countries
with the largest amounts, the three main countries of origin are segregated.
The maps in the lower halve compare the amount of asylum seekers in
1999 and 2003.

In the map on organic agriculture (Europa Expres, May 2004 issue) the size of countries illustrates the amount of hectares under organic management, both in 1994 and 2002. The amount of organic farms is represented in symbols, the percentage of total agriculture in shades of green.

In December 2003 it became clear the Intergouvernmental Conference couldn't reach an agreement
on the new Constitution
of the European Union. In collaboration with the European Policy Centre, Mapping Worlds constructed
three maps about the main controversy, comparing formal representation in the European Union (December 2003). The maps got introduced
on the EPC-site.

River management is most of the time an international issue. This map (Europa Expres, September 2004 issue) shows the draft EU-river districts (based on river basins) and whether they are situated within one or more EU-member states. The main rivers are sized to their outflow at sea.

Another map treats the absolute and relative net contribution of member states to the EU budget. The map on the contribution as a percentage of the Gross National Income (on the right) was published in the January 2004 issue of Europa Expres and Metro (January 20, 2004)
