I come from there, I return the sky to its mother when for its mother the sky cries, and I weep for a returning cloud to know me.
I have learned the words of blood-stained courts in order to break the rules.
I have learned and dismantled all the words to construct a single one:
Home.

Fragment from 'I Am There' by Mahmoud Darwish, Winner of the 2004 Principal Prince Claus Award

In partnership with the Prince Claus Fund for Culture and Development, Mapping Worlds has designed three maps on the theme of Migration and Asylum. All maps represent countries proportionate to their value on a specific indicator.

People Adrift

A world map about persons forced to leave their house and region for fear of violence and persecution. For each country, the map shows combined amounts of international refugees and internally displaced persons. The more people adrift are located in a country, the larger it is on the map. To be published in Prince Claus Journal #11, December 2004.

People on the Move

This world map indicates how much migration movement each country experiences in a year. The higher the combined amount of annual inflow and outflow, the larger the country is on the map. To be published in Prince Claus Journal #11, December 2004.

The Hospitality Map

An illustrated debate, inviting the public to suggest ways to measure hospitality of the EU towards immigrants. The debate is represented by a series of maps.
